New Functionality in the AAS Online Directory

The AAS online directory is now more secure and has more options. To use the directory to its fullest — that is, to view most of the same member information that you'll find in the printed AAS Membership Directory — you must sign in as a member of the AAS. If you're not signed in, or if you're signed in but are not a member, you can still use the directory, but some search options and results will be limited. We made these changes to prevent AAS membership information from being harvested by direct marketers as well as to better protect the privacy of our members.

Here's how the directory behaves in the three possible scenarios:

Anonymous/Not Signed In

  • Limited search fields: first name, last name, and email address.
  • Protection from spammers and robots: requires manual entry of specific text.
  • Up to 10 search results returned.
  • Only basic information displayed: name, email address (not a link), website, ORCID iD, and affiliation.

Signed-In Nonmember

  • All search fields available.
  • Up to 25 search results returned.
  • More information displayed: everything listed above (with email address now a link) plus member type, Division membership(s), and phone number.

Signed-In AAS Member

  • All search fields available.
  • Up to 50 search results returned.
  • More information displayed: everything listed above plus address and fax number.

We think we've struck a good balance between member privacy and community convenience. As always, you may opt out of being listed in the directory (both the printed and online versions) by emailing [email protected].
